The Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa is the only federally recognized tribe in the state of Iowa. With roots in the state dating back to the 1800s, the “Red Earth People,” or Meskwaki Tribe, are Algonquian origin from the Eastern Woodland areas.
To this day, the Meskwaki work hard to maintain their culture, including the language, which is of similar dialect to the Sauk and Kickapoo.
Early leaders of this nation purchased land in Tama County and over the years, the Meskwaki Tribe has grown to more than 8,100 acres in Tama, Marshall and Palo Alto Counties. The Tribe is the biggest employer in Tama County, with more than 1,200 people.
Land acquisitions allowed for diversification of the tribal economy. In 1992, the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel was constructed in Tama, jumping on board with the successful tribal gaming industry. Although the casino was generating revenue and profits for the Tribe, the Meskwaki Nation knew they needed to start diversifying their sources of income from strictly gaming.
In 2015, they developed Meskwaki, Inc. “to create diverse, profitable and sustainable businesses that provide meaningful opportunities for members of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa.” Under this company was formed Big River Trading Company, the Travel Plaza in Tama, a fuel company, professional services, and Outagami Vape.
As a Native American company, the tribe has been passing the pipe for centuries, so it was only natural to dive into the vaping industry and continue the tradition of creating clouds under the Outagami brand.
Today, Outagami is proudly producing original and unique pharmaceutical-grade e-liquid. Premium and convenience flavors are produced from a custom, hand-crafted recipe mixed and tested by the Outagami team. Ask your local vape shop for Outagami vape today and start creating clouds of your own.
